Well not ran out, but hit the light for Low DEF. I am deployed and while she was on her way home from holiday trip (500 mi) she got the light. Luckly it also popped up with the message "engine will not start in 200mi, Refill DEF" or something. She sent pics asking for help and i instructed her to the closest Truck stop with a pump. Google it. The attendant had to pump it for her due to the need for a special attachment. I guess they havent set up pumps for smaller trucks yet. It cost about $20 to fill it up. Not bad. I only have 5500K miles on her at time of fill up. So i am disappointed about that. but it was only $20

Glad she was able to get the DEF filled. I topped mine off yesterday. Purchased two 2.5 gallon jugs from Sam's for $10.94 each. It took about 4 gallons to fill the tank with 3,800 miles on the clock. Neat little plastic nozzle included. Didn't spill a drop. I can't find a pump at any truck stop within 40 miles from my home. We have truck stops everywhere and each one has 50 video poker machines but no DEF pump. They have the 2.5 gallon jugs for $14.99 each.

As long as the DEF doesn't hit zero we're good. I have had mine down to 50 miles left before filling. I did this on purpose to replace the DEF left from the summer. DEF has a very short shelf life in hot weather (above 90 F). As soon as warm temps come again (and not soon enough), I fill the DEF tank to no more than half. This way it won't go bad.

Q. What is the shelf life of DEF?
A. The shelf life of DEF is directly related to the ambient storage temperature. DEF will degrade over time depending on temperature and exposure to sun light. If stored between 10 and 90 deg F, shelf life will easily be one year. However, if the maximum temperature does not exceed approximately 75 deg F for an extended period of time, the shelf life will be two years.

I'm letting mine run down just to see what happens. Truck stop 5 miles away has it at the pump. My buddy just bought a Duramax and I was reading up on his system. It gives a warning at 1000 miles and another at 300. When empty it limits you to 55mph and the longer you drive it will keep reducing that speed down to 35mph. the truck will continue to run on empty but once shut off it will not restart.
Anyone know the what the Eco does?

I am just East of Morgan City. I appreciate the truck stop locations you listed. I am in Hammond, Breaux Bridge, and Lafayette pretty often. I will include these in the notes on my Iphone. Thanks again Ziggy and be safe.
